F Word of the Day: The New Breed of Feminist – #GirlsCan

The new Cover Girl campaign #GirlsCan taps into a powerful notion. It’s not that people say we can’t, its a feeling, a societal pressure that feels like we can’t.

I once told my wife that women can’t do one thing: Write their name in the snow 🙂

She responded: “Yes we can! With a stencil!”

    Again, she’s always right.

I hate the attitude that women can’t do all of these things because society deems them as being something meant for men. I’m really glad Covergirl made this ad! Girls are capable of doing anything that guys are capable, and there needs to be more awareness.

I just love all these big brands finally getting on board some decent causes. Then using their names to spread the word. Our younger generation needs the encouragement these messages send, rather than the “not good enough” messages they’ve been provided for way too long.

This is great. Girls need this encouragement! For too long, the pressures of societal norms and unspoken social ‘rules’ have been holding girls back. It’s time to challenge those rules and be who you want to be!

Whenever someone say I can’t do something it just makes me want to do it more, to prove them wrong. We can do anything we set our minds to, girls. The sky’s the limit.

I do appreciate the message and mindset they are presenting, because it’s really just common sense. The problem I have is it’s wrapped up in a commercial for makeup. Girls can!…Wear makeup! Tiny steps I suppose, until a message like this can be promoted outside of bubble of selling a product to the masses. 🙂
